Appears on Skeletons
it’s a shame it had to come to this
I stained the windows of my car
there’s a word for this
I’ve forgotten what it is
my only mortal friend has gone away
East Coast, West Coast
where I hit next God only knows
I’ve sworn silence on my baby daughter’s grave in someone else’s blood
there’s a storm
it only stops when we’re asleep but I stole the hotel’s extra key
there’s a word for this
I’ve forgotten what it is
my only mortal friend has gone away
East Coast, West Coast
where I hit next God only knows
I’ve sworn silence on my baby daughter’s grave and someone else’s name
Appears on Tedium of Life on a Space Colony
a baby elephant escaped from the zoo so naturally it made me think of you
not because you remind me of an elephant but more like how we’re both looking at the same moon
I’m sorry for all I put you through
I guess you’re on safari too
if you ever want to drop me a line you know where to drop it to
for a while there we were inseparable
I mean we shared the same square mile every couple of weeks
my imagination fills in all the holes
I swear you smiled at me
everybody else is covered in goo
but you’re as clear as day
no goo on you
being introduced was a revelation
would I say it if it wasn’t true?
lost in reverie I was trampled by the baby elephant
as to whether I was ready for that, I won’t lie, I wasn’t
to even talk to you would be a shot in the dark
compared to a broken heart being trampled is a walk in the park
I’ll not so soon admit defeat
I’ll change your mind next time we meet
I’ve never felt so incomplete
all I’ve ever known is failure
each morning I walk past your street I curse myself and I weep and I weep
you so kind, so tough, so sweet
me so dim, so dull, so weak
for a while there we were inseparable
I mean we shared the same square mile every thirteen days
in my head I replay every single word you said
drowned out by the sound of a baby elephant running away
the leap of faith I’ll never take
being with you just takes the cake
I’m that tail you’ll never shake
it’s lightning first then thunder
